Our Story at The Olde 1840
The Olde 1840 was created from a shared appreciation for spaces that feel warm, collected, and thoughtfully lived in. Long before the barn doors opened, Goliath and Keith were drawn to timeless design, well-crafted pieces, and the quiet charm of shops found off the beaten path.
Goliath’s passion for interiors began early and eventually led him to the Art Institute of Interior Design in Newport Beach, where he refined the instinct he had been carrying for years. Keith’s career path took him through the world of financial forecasting, but he has always felt a pull toward objects with history and character — pieces that feel grounded and genuine.
During their time in California, they found themselves inspired by the small desert destinations they loved to explore — places where every item felt curated, every corner felt intentional, and the experience itself lingered long after leaving. These shops weren’t just retail spaces; they were settings that invited people in, encouraged conversation, and made them feel part of something.
In 2021, they returned to the East Coast in search of nature, quiet, and a place to build something meaningful. When they came across a modest property in upstate New York with a weathered 1840 carriage barn, the decision felt instinctive. The barn carried a presence — a sense of history that deserved to be preserved and re-imagined. Though the structure needed vision and care, it had the kind of character that simply can’t be recreated.
What began as a simple idea has evolved into a destination dedicated to warm, welcoming, and intentional design. Today, The Olde 1840 is becoming a place where visitors can slow down, wander comfortably, and discover pieces chosen with care. The experience is relaxed and unrushed, grounded in the belief that good design comes from meaningful conversation and genuine interaction.
The Olde 1840 is more than a shop — it’s a reflection of history, craftsmanship, and the belief that beautiful spaces are created piece by piece, story by story.
